Detroit Red Wings - 100 Years of Hockeytown
The Detroit Red Wings are one of the most iconic franchises in the National Hockey League, known for their rich history, elite talent, and championship pedigree. Founded in 1926, the team became a powerhouse during the “Original Six” era, building a legacy around legends like Gordie Howe. Nicknamed “Hockeytown,” Detroit has captured 11 Stanley Cup championships, with dominant eras spanning from the 1950s to a modern dynasty in the late 1990s and early 2000s, led by stars such as Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidström and many more. Known for their winning culture, player development, and loyal fanbase, the Red Wings remain a symbol of sustained excellence and tradition in professional hockey.
For 100 years, the heart of Detroit has beat to the rhythm of blades on ice and the roar of the crowd. From smoky rinks to championship parades, generations have grown up dreaming in red and white. Legends were born, dynasties built, and through every triumph and trial, the fans never left. The city changed, but the spirit of Hockeytown only grew stronger. 100 Years of Hockeytown - a century of passion, pride, and the unbreakable bond between a team and its people.
The Detroit Red Wings' new centennial logo celebrates 100 years of hockey history with a refined design. At its heart is a redrawn version of the iconic 1934 Winged Wheel, updated specifically for this milestone season. The number "100" is integrated seamlessly, with the "1" and "0" styled to echo the curves and lines of the classic logo. Rendered in Red Wings red and vintage white, the design honours the team's rich heritage while marking a century of excellence on the ice.
